Candide PR GraphicSavoyards Musical Theatre Ltd. presents a special performance of Candide on Saturday, September 24th at 8pm at the historic Morgan Opera House. With a score by legendary Leonard Bernstein, a witty book by Hugh Wheeler and lyric contributions by Stephen Sondheim, Candide is a “masterpiece for the ages”. Directed by Gary Mousdale, this production transplants Voltaire’s satire on mindless optimism (“Everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds!”) from the salons of 18th century to the cafes of the dolce vita 1960s. Fast-paced, riotously funny, and with some of the most gorgeous singing in any Broadway score, Candide is a show which will not fail to entertain! The cast is led by tenor Andrew Hudson-Sabens as Candide and soprano Karen Wonder Dumont as Cunegonde. Savoyard favorites also appearing are Anthony DiRenzo as Voltaire, Doug Mathews as Dr. Pangloss, and Elizabeth Frank as the Old Lady. Newcomer Sarah Weldon portrays Paquette and Nick Roscoe is Maximillian. They are joined by a cast of 26 prepared by Music Director Katrina Kuka. The show will be accompanied by Mary Holzhauer at the piano. Candide is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
