“The Sewards of New York” Sunday, June 7 2 pm
The Morgan Opera House will host Thomas P. Slaughter, Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Rochester on Sunday, June 7th at 2 pm. He will present an illustrated lecture about the Seward family as documented in his recently published book, The Sewards of New York. Drawing upon the Seward Collection in the archives at the U of R, Dr. Slaughter describes an extended family that swayed William Henry’s political ambitions and influence. Within the context of multiple generations who occupied the family home in Auburn, the book explores the impact of their beliefs and lives in shaping his stance on the critical issue of the time, slavery.
The event is part of the continuing Renate Rewald lecture series supported by the Morgan Opera House.
